Breakfast and lunch made with love and a little magic at Rinconcito de la 57 – a pet friendly café with great vibes

Hola! This is Senorito Beauregard here with a new pet friendly restaurant review. You’re going to love to hear about Rinconcito de la 57 as much as I enjoyed taking my people to visit.

We pulled up outside this cute little café in Fraccionamiento Las Americas. I noticed a pretty little collie with a friendly-looking person playing in the park. As we got out of the car, I tried to flirt with her until I realised that these two were exactly who we had come to meet; Alejandro and his gorgeous rescued collie cross, Avril.

What’s this little café like?

The first thing you notice when you enter Rinconcito de la 57, aside from the smiles and friendly greeting, is the peaceful vibe. Dogs pick up on vibes, and I can tell when a place is chill and ‘muy tranquilo.’ As soon as I arrived, after everyone gave me a scratch behind the ears, I felt so relaxed and happy.

The tables are set in a garden area, surrounded by shady plants, incense burners, little shelves covered in books and interesting knick-knacks, and the gentle sound of water coming from a small fountain. It is shady and cool, and while everything feels so laid back, the service is excellent.

My human asked Alejandro about the books. “One of the ideas when we opened was to promote reading. So, we have books in various parts of the restaurant. We also accept book donations, and at times we publish trivia about books that we have in Rinconcito. We write a paragraph from a random book and whoever tells us the name of the book receives a gift of one of our delicious drinks. We are working on some art projects, bazaars, and other interesting things which we will be posting on our social networks”

You’ll notice some traditional breakfast and lunch dishes as you look through the menu. Then the Rinconcito de la 57 specialty delights will pop out to surprise you. Wait until I tell you about the Trilogia Rinconcito, which they insisted my humans taste.

Who are the people who created this little tranquil spot?

Alejandro came to Merida from Colombia with his family 23 years ago when his father was offered a job opportunity in the sportswear manufacturing industry. They fell in love with this beauty and peaceful city and made it their home. Alejandro followed his father into the sportswear business, but when the pandemic hit and salaries started being cut, he realised he needed to rethink his life. Alejandro explained. “From there the idea of setting up my restaurant arose, a change of environment for me and for mine, new goals and visions of their own business and doing what I really like to serve people, please them with rich Mexican gastronomy food and that they can enjoy it in a very natural and calm outdoor environment.”

The whole family loves dogs, and, quite honestly, they are what my humans call ‘salt of the earth’. Kind, warm, and friendly, they spent time with us, telling us about their journey to create this lovely little spot to reflect the things that they think are important. They wanted a serene environment where they could spend time and share food with the wonderful people that they had come to know and love in Merida.

But, what’s the food like?

So, let’s get to the food, because that’s what you are all here for. While I settled in the corner with my favourite chew, my humans shared avocado toast. This wasn’t just any old avocado toast; it was a gooey, creamy, melty plate of deliciousness. The avocados were dressed with melting cheese and two perfectly fried eggs. There was a fresh salad on the side with their excellent house dressing. I think my people thought they had died and gone to heaven.

But that wasn’t all that Alejandro brought them. Next was the Trilogia Rinconcito, and you will want to come to eat this delectable creation. Imagine an omelette filled with pulled pork, accompanied by chilaquiles, refried beans, and house salsa. It was everything as far as I could from overhearing the conversation. Juicy, meaty, crunchy, full of flavour, and very yummy. There were a lot of discussions over which part was best, but everyone agreed that this was a very rich delight and truly unique and delicious.

Next was the house veggie burger. One of my people is a bit of a veggie burger fan, and she said this reminded her of some of the best she has had. She loved the lovely bean and vegetable flavour complimented with the fresh and crunchy salad on a big brioche bun. The chips (my humans are British) were crunchy and, funnily enough, they all disappeared. Fresh, healthy, filling, and very flavourful, just as the best vegan food should be.

I’m sure my humans sound very greedy, but they really were full up, so when the very classic Yucatecan breakfast delicacy, Huevos Motulenos, arrived, they could only manage a bite. I must admit to giving them a side eye about that because I would never say no to food, but they took some great photos, and if you’re a fan of this local dish, you will not be disappointed. They’ve added Colombian flair to this unique dish to make it even more spectacular if that’s even possible.

All of this made everyone very thirsty. There were some insanely gorgeous coffee drinks that appeared to be more desert than drink, and also refreshing and, according to my humans, heavenly fruit drinks.

Pet friendly and welcoming

Rinconcito de la 57 is more than just a pet friendly restaurant; it’s a place where you feel like you are being welcomed into someone’s home, and each dish is a way of getting to know them better. They are thinking of adding some Colombian dishes to their menu, which will add a whole new flavour to the community.

It is hard to find a place that is more pet friendly. They adopted Avril in 2022 after seeing her up for adoption on Facebook. They loved her so much, they wanted to take her everywhere. So, of course, all dogs are welcomed with open arms at their restaurant.

There’s a park across the street where your four-legged friend can have a sniff and stroll. They will bring a bowl of nice cool water for the dogs while the two-leggeds relax, eat, and enjoy the perfect place to much their way to an all-day smile.   They focus on great cooking with organic and fresh ingredients, and my humans think they sprinkle a little sweet magic into every dish. They certainly did smile a lot.
