Cafe del Sol – Incredible Coffee, Burgers, and a Warm Pet Friendly Welcome

We could not be happier to be able to introduce our new Pet Friendly Ambassador, Senorito Beauregard, with his very first pet friendly restaurant review. He has been in training to learn all the important responsibilities that go along with this very important role, and we are sure that you will agree, that he is going to make a fine Ambassador.

Hola humans! I am Senorito Beauregard; Beaux to my friends. I am not sure how I got to be so lucky. I am adopted and somehow I became an Ambassador for all things Pet Friendly in Yucatan. I have been told that I am stepping into big paws, but I suspect mine are going to grow even bigger. So, sit down, relax, and let me tell you about this wonderful pet friendly restaurant right on Santa Ana Square in Merida, Centro. It is called Cafe del Sol.

I settled my humans down with an iced cappuccino, a chai latte and some cakes, while I got to know Gaby, the Uruguayan proprietor and heart behind this charming little spot in Merida. She is what my humans call a ‘real sweetheart’.

Gaby had been a housewife all her life. Following her divorce, she found herself alone, sad, and worried about her future. Wanting to start over, she studied, used what little capital she had, and came to Merida with a dream. It was not easy, and she knew it was risky. Running a restaurant is a true labour of love, and certainly not for the feint of heart.

Gaby surrounded herself with an incredible team, and even had to live on site, as she opened and put in the long hours to become a successful restauranteur. Really, I should call it what Gaby calls it, ‘a specialty coffee roaster house’. But wait, what about these burgers?

According to my humans, you don’t often see or taste burgers like this in a cafe. In fact, one of my humans considers themselves a burger connoisseur and rates this in the top 3 burgers of Merida. You might want to share it with one or even two people because it is huge. I got to taste a little bit since I don’t work for free, and it certainly has my four paws of approval. This one was the three cheese burger.

You see, Cafe del Sol is not your average cafe. This sweet little spot, that has such a lovely outdoor feel, with trees and plants all around you, is open from 8am – 10pm. So, you can find fantastic options on their menu for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

I asked Gaby about her pet friendly policy and she told me about her adopted cat, Pancho. She loves him so very much and he used to live with her on the restaurant site when she started. They both have a home off site now, but she says customers often ask after him.

As a dog, I felt very welcome. There is a bowl of water available and plenty of room for me to get comfortable while humans sit at their table to eat.

Did I mention the cake, and croissants? How did I forget. I was probably distracted by all the ‘oh how yummy’, ‘mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm’, ‘so delicious’ sounds coming from the table. The croissants are made off site; apparently by someone who really knows how to make crumbly, flaky, and heavenly croissants. The carrot cake, is made right in Cafe del Sol and somehow manages to be rich, fruity, and light all at the same time. At least this is what my staff tell me (is it appropriate to call my humans ‘staff’?

There are cool tiles to lie on inside the restaurant, where you can relax and people watch through the windows. As you are right in the heart of Centro, Merida, this pet friendly restaurant, gives you a prime location for a long, relaxing, break, and some great food as you observe the hustle and bustle of this gorgeous city. They also serve adult beverages, so you can relax and get your buzz on too!

We (meaning my staff and I) highly recommend Cafe del Sol. Gaby has found the perfect way to provide a tranquil sanctuary in the heart of Merida, with great food, and a relaxing ambience. Most of all, she loves and welcomes your well behaved pets to join you as you sip some of her specialty coffee, or indulge in one of her main courses.
